Applying to SPUUR


Any full-time student – domestic or international – enrolled at any US university or college in the spring 2024 semester is eligible to apply to the UW-Madison SPUUR. Preference will be given to Junior- and Senior standing undergraduate students with scientific curiosity, a willingness to learn, and a serious interest in pursuing a PhD in a biomedical science field. Students planning to apply to veterinary school, medical school, or to any other professional degree program (e.g., PharmD, DDM, DNP) will be considered based on their interest in research. Students MUST commit to full-time participation in the program from start to end.

Dates for summer 2024: Tuesday, May 28 through Friday, August 2. Holidays observed, for which students are not required to work, are Independence Day (Thursday, July 4) and the day after Independence Day (Friday, July 5).

THE APPLICATION. Complete ALL elements of the UW-Madison Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP) application process. Detailed instructions for the SROP application are on the SROP website HERE.

***Note that when you select the UW-Madison SPUUR Program, you are required to complete 2 additional SPUUR forms, listed in the SROP application process under “SPUUR 1” and “SPUUR 2.”

DIVERSITY. The UW-Madison SPUUR program encourages students from all backgrounds to apply. This includes first-generation college students, those who have a background of overcoming disadvantage, and those residing in areas where undergraduate research opportunities are not particularly available.
